“Jeff and I awoke early for our 8 a.m. start and were greeted with sunny skis and fog slowly burning off the mountain. We were both a bit nervous (especially me), but were ready to race. We saw many familiar faces and knew that the level of competition would be high.
So, there is good news and bad news — the good news is that I WON!
And the bad news is I suffered a bad crash (probably due to nervous energy) and the end of the 2nd of 4 laps. I went over the bars and landed on my left shoulder. I stood up, did a quick body and bike check, and continued with the race. At this point I was in 1st place but was aware that 2nd place was not far behind. I quickly figured out that due to the crash I had only 1 chain ring — the wee ring — and a shoulder injury. I finished the race in pain, and immediately went to the EMT`s. Initial diagnosis: 1st degree shoulder separation or hairline fracture of the humerous. Will know more later….
